RE: Ford 250 vs 350 4x4 dually

I too have done the 1/2, 3/4, 1 ton SRW/DRW dance. If you are pulling a 37' Cameo, the bare minimum you should be considering is a 350 DRW.

RE: Anyone out there have one of these?

I still have my original '73 VW Super Beetle Sport Bug model. I'm going to build me one of those rooftop hitches for it and sell my F350. Should pull my 36' fifth wheel just fine. Even the MPG estimates are way better than I'm seeing now.
PS: Do any of the GPS systems list downhill only travel?

RE: sink in bedroom

Don't like that layout? Look around for alternatives. Our layout has a bathroom sink in both the toilet room AND the bedroom. Works well for us.......

RE: snap, crackle & pop goes the frame

Can't be a Lippert problem. Carriage make there own frames and they are a well proven design over the years. Ours does some creaking as the weight switches from the pin box on the truck to the front jacks. Has never been a problem. There is an aluminum sub frame boxing in part of the Cameo's bath/bedroom area that is probably responsible for the creaking and cracking noises. The Carri-Lite and Carriage models have a fully welded steel sub-frame in this same area. I wonder if that prevents the creaking noises on those models?

RE: Bug Repellent? What is everyone using?

Ditto the MUSKOL recommendation. Works good but it is smelly and sticky to use. Sure beats being eaten up by swarms of hungry mosquitos.....
I use MUSKOL. It's the best, but it has lots of DEET. If I can't get Muskol, I use Deep Woods Off, but I prefer Muskol.
I recreate in Manitoba and N.W. Ontario....biting bug capital of the world, as we know it.

RE: How do you do getting warranty work completed?

You are lucky that you can find a dealer who will perform warranty work for you if you didn't buy there. Many won't even talk to you once they learn it's for warranty work and you didn't buy there.
We were lucky in that our manufacturer would authorize an independent service provider to complete the work when we were travelling in Ft. Myers FL this past winter (after the local dealer - Marks RV - couldn't fit us in for 3+ months???? What's with that!!!). Using an independent service provider could mean that you could have the work done right at your campground rather than take it somewhere (and have it held up for days/weeks).
You might want to ask your manufacturer about that option.

Filling Cdn Prescriptions in the US?

Just wondering how Canadians travelling in the U.S. deal with filling drug prescriptions while there. We spend 5 or 6 months in the U.S. during the winters and can't always take enough medications to last that long. How do others handle this? Also, will Canadian drug insurance companies cover prescriptions filled in the U.S.?

RE: Has anyone been to the RV/MH Museum & Hall of Fame?

We stopped in there for a visit last month. Spectacular building with lots of really neat exhibits (plus room for many more). Well worth making a trip there. RV's have come a long way.....
I would like to see a kind of permanent outdoor RV show on the adjacent grounds where new RV's could be displayed by the various manufacturers. There were only a handful of new units (5 I think)being displayed at the museum due to space constraints. Good opportunity for them to advertise their wares to prequalified (since they are already paying to see RV's) customers.

RE: Honda EU3000? ? ? ?

Mine runs my 15,000 BTU air conditioner fine. I have made up a plug to go into the twist/lock receptacle. I think it outputs around 23.5 amps. Seems to work well but I wouldn't turn on any heat producing appliances (eg: toaster, microwave, coffee maker, hair dryer, etc.) while the A/C is running. No problem with running lights, TV, fridge, etc. at the same time though.

RE: Chairs

K-Mart (and Sears under the K-Mart brand) have had them here in Ft. Myers FL all winter. I think the cost was around $24.99,
They are a great chair. Fold up in a small space, are light weight, etc. Price is a little high for my liking though.
Can't figure out why more people aren't selling these still.

RE: nitrogen in tires

I haven't decided whether or not to go with nitrogen yet. Since I started using remote tire pressure monitors, I've seen my tire pressures going from 75 PSI cold to over 90 PSI after about 30 miles or so. I guess the tire companies realize this is happening and construct their tires accordingly but I found it disconcerting nonetheless. Would my tires last longer at 75 or 80 PSI or at 90+ PSI?
Since I dont have a nitrogen compressor, I've decided to stay with regular air pressure for now.....

Ipod Sound Quality Using AAD vs Apple Lossless

When I first purchased my 80 Gb IPod, I loaded my CD collection into I-Tunes using MP-3 Encoder set at the "High" (160 kbps) setting. With this combination, I can occasionally detect some less than perfect playback sound quality. Recently, the computer where I had my I-Tunes library died and I'm planning to reload my collection onto a new computer.
Can anyone tell me the difference between AAC (set at it's highest setting) and Apple Lossless encoding. With the MP-3 160 kbps setting, my library took up about 20 Gb of space. Anyone know if the AAC setting would be double or triple that? How about the Lossless setting? I don't want to choose a setting that will not fit the current 20Gb on my Ipod once it's reloaded in the higher quality setting.
Are either of these formats likely to be more transportable to other hardware that might come out in the future? I don't want to load everything into Apple Lossless if no one else is making players that use this format.

Limit for Importing Alcohol Into Ontario/Canada

I know that you are only allowed one 1.14L bottle of alcohol (or case of beer, etc.) to bring back duty free after a 48 hour trip out of the country. Is there a limit to how many bottles you can bring back by declaring them and paying any necessary duties? The price is so much lower in the U.S. I'm thinking of bringing back about 15 or 20 l.75L bottles of Vodka, Whiskey, Rum, etc. for gifts, personal use, etc.
Anybody know if there are any limits on how many bottles can be brought back and how much the duty is per bottle?

RE: Glendale Titanium 5th wheel

Hi,
The two people that I talked to really like their units.
They are well balanced and have twin fresh water tanks, one in front of and one behind the trailer axles, so you don't add 300 pounds to the hitch weight when dry camping.
The only drawback is they produce a 96" wide trailer, not the usual 102" wide trailer. I saw them several years ago at a RV show, and the rear porch looks like a great option.
Fred.
Regarding the 96" width versus 102", it seems to me that 96" is almost the industry standard (although I know that some make the wider version). Who are you comparing the Titanium to? Are they in the same ballpark for MSRP? Not sure I've seen too many 102" wide trailers - who all has them?

RE: 2008 Cameo sofa side tables

Not sure I understand your question. Are you saying that you want to add the side tables to the 2-seat side theatre seating? If so, you might want to check the available room for them first before buying. I think your layout is fairly similar to our 35FD3 and in ours there would not be room to add the side tables without getting rid of something in the dining table area.
Regardless of price, are you sure you want the extra side tables?
As far as price goes, these are custom sized tables with a very low volume of production. The price you quote is high but doesn't really surprise me. Have you checked the price with other dealers?

RE: Cell Services while in USA

In our case, we spend the winter in Florida. Bell Mobility has a 'Florida' plan - 100 minutes for $20/month. In addition to that, we use Skype on our computer. Our Skype package costs us $3 per month (on a 12 month plan) and allows for unlimited free outgoing calling anywhere in Canada or US. Calls to Europe are at extra cost but very inexpensive and free if you happen to be calling Skype to Skype.
Since we only have outgoing call capability on Skype, we have our callers call on our cell phone and then we call back on Skype if the call is going to take very long.
We'll be able to use Skype from back in Canada this spring/summer also. Our Bell Mobility plan is so inexpensive for calls in Canada, we may not use Skype much there (unless we're calling outside of Canada). Skype is great to have for inexpensive long calls.......

Cedar Creek 5er On It's Side After Tornado on Today's News

Anybody see the TV news reports of tornados yesterday in Alabama and Florida panhandle showing the Cedar Creek 5er laying on it's side in a field? Looked like the glass was all broken out but I was surprised to see how it had maintained it's structural integrity after what must have been a very rough ride. Hope no one was in it at the time (or if there was someone, that they survived OK).
Do 5th wheel trailers typically survive rough weather better than mobile homes or travel trailers? Motorhomes?
